Strengthening elected women leadership: In Dakshina Kannada district, JST has been working to build and strengthen the leadership capacities of elected women representatives in Grama Panchayaths so that they can take a greater roles in the public domain and be part of public decision making processes.
Accordingly to enhance the capacity of women members of the Panchayaths and empower them to actively participate in the local governance system so as to promote the village as ‘Sugrama’ in the real sense, activities such as need- based workshops, interface meeting with officers at block and district lvel, Federation meeting at block level and Jagruthi Vedike meeting at Panchayath level were organised. This project is supported by The Hunger Project and Panchayath Raj Institutions.
Santhwana – women help line centres: JST runs two Santhwana Centres - women helpline in Putturu and Batwala Blocks with the grant-in –aid from Women and Child Development Department. These centres works round the clock and provides counselling services and support for women in difficult situation by attending the calls received through the toll-free telephone service provided from government and women who come directly to the centre
